If you are a commercial driver in Pennsylvania, you will need to undergo a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical in order to maintain the medical certification of your CDL. Without an on-file and in-date DOT physical, you will not be permitted to operate a commercial vehicle within the state of Pennsylvania or over state lines. By visiting AFC Urgent Care Northern Liberties, you will be able to undergo your physical quickly, without an appointment.
What do I need to pass a DOT physical?
In order to pass your physical, you will need to be able to meet federal and medical requirements put forth by the Department of Transportation. Commercial drivers will need to meet the following:
- Vision: at least 20/40 in each eye unassisted or with corrective lenses
- Hearing: must be able to hear a whisper from five feet away
- Blood pressure: between 120/80 – 140/90
- Medication and chronic health: must have a proven history of being able to control and/or manage symptoms of chronic conditions with proper medications
Consult with your doctor to see if there are exemptions available for any situations unique to your case. The frequency you undergo DOT physicals is dependent on your field, profession and employer. You will need to update your DOT physical at least every two years, though your employer may require more frequent visits.
